 Jeff Ride
This morning I drove to the Swamp Rabbit Cafe to meet Jeff for a ride. We met there and headed up the trail. My friends Sam and Erynn were there. I introduced them to Jeff and talked for a couple of minutes. Jeff wanted me to lead and set the pace. That is fine by me as he tends to stop suddenly and I have to watch closely so that I don’t run into him. We headed up the trail with Jeff pulling off a couple of times for odd reasons. We turned into the Furman campus to circle the lake. When we approached the bridge and Jeff yells "I’ll race you to the top." So instead of turning onto the bridge, I continued straight to climb the hill. The I heard Jeff yell "Oh crap!" I climbed the hill and went down the other side and started around the the other side of the lake. I watched for him in my mirror for a long time and he never appeared, so I finally pulled off and waited for him. He finally pulled around and said the he couldn’t get shifted into a lower gear and had to stop to shift it. We rode through Travelers Rest and out to the end of the trail, but Jeff stopped about a quarter mile from the end and said that he’d wait for me. When I got to the end Bo and his girlfriend Eugenia were there on a tandem CoMotion bike. I had never met Eugenia, but the 3 of us talked for a good bit out there. Finally Jeff rolled down to us and I introduced him to them and the 4 of us chatted. Bo and Eugenia took off then Jeff and I followed them down the trail. Going back down the trail we stopped several times to look at different things. Jeff’s trike was also making some odd noises from the drive wheel. When we got back to the cafe we decided to go back to downtown and eat at Papi’s Taco and leave Jeff’s trike with Freehub Cycles. We dropped off the trike then went to Papi’s Tacos for lunch. I had 3 tacos - a squash and bell pepper taco, an al pastor taco , and a chicken and chorizo taco with lemonade. Jeff lives downtown, so he was in walking distance while I rode back to the cafe where the truck was parked.
