2009 has started off with some very good cycling. 2009 is my 22nd. year of 10,000 plus miles in a calendar year. I was not sure I would make it as the Multiple Myeloma is growing at an alarming rate and I will have to start Chemo and most likely stem cell transplant. Without treatment, the doctor says I will expire in 8 months! That will end my biking for awhile. 2010 brought chemo treatments. First one destroyed all my muscles. Second type of chemo worked very slowly. Third type worked. Stem cell transplant took place on May 17, 2011. It did a lot of damage to my body, leaving it very hard to walk, let alone bike. Biking as I know it came to an end at the end of Jan. 2011. Forever. I now ride a single speed senior three-wheeler around the compound one or two miles a day.
2013 update:
I acquired a Sun EZ 3 trike in November of 2012. I started riding it and soon gained my confidence back. I rode it every day. My cruising speed now is 9 to 12 MPH depending on the wind. But I am out there riding!
May, 2013 I received my Sun AX 3 recumbent/trike. I am riding this trike almost every day. This trike has made my legs stronger, and is also a positive factor mentally. 2014 was a good year. 7513 miles!

I had a 10,000 mile per year average for 37 years. I now have 41 years of cycling with a 9474 average per year, as of 1.1.16.
I am a Bicycle Instructor
I lead tours
Organize bicycle rides ranging from one day to multi-day trips anywhere. I have done a coast-to-coast, toured New Zealand and Vietnam. I have also cycled in Tokyo, New York City, and many other major towns of the world.
When working, I commuted to work as often as possible, averaging about 50% of the time. I am now retired and live in Illinois in the summer and The Valley of Texas in the winter.
2009 was the last time I cycled over 10000 miles in one year, until 2016. 12269 miles which places me over 400000 lifetime miles. I continue to amaze myself as I thought 2010 would be the last time I would ride a bike. Now I can't ride two wheels, but I can ride a trike. The cancer is back however I continue to ride on! 2018 was my 25th year to ride 10,000+ miles in one year.
