Into club cycling and long distance touring in the mid-to-late 70s with the Tidewater Bicycle Association while stationed in Norfolk with the USN. Began cycle commuting in paradise while stationed on a destroyer in Pearl Harbor. After a too long hiatus, I began 5 days a week bicycle commuting in May 2005 and have resumed club riding. I enjoy rides in the 40-100 mile range.

After my 29-year old Falcon 10-speed broke down on my commute, I bought a used hybrid for the commute and errands, and a new LeMond Sarthe for my serious riding.

Past major trips:
1977 - Whitehall NY to Burlington VT and across Lake Champlain.
1978 - Pasadena CA to Yosemite via Mojave Desert and back to Monterey CA.
1979 - Monterey CA to San Diego CA via Hwy 1 for League of American Wheelmen national rally.
2007 - Truckee CA to Lake Tahoe CA to Sacramento CA
2012 - Astoria OR to Bodega Bay CA via Hwy 101 & Hwy 1.

What's with my Bike Journal name, you ask?! I am a retired Captain in the US Navy Reserve.
