I've been cycling for a long time. Here I am in 1962 with my first bicycle. It's a red Western Flyer.... sorta wish I still had this bike. As a young kid, I liked the sense of freedom it gave me.

I've had at least one bike continuously ever since; although the amount of riding I did varied tremendously depending on where I lived, available free time, and general station in life.

Over the past 10 years, I've gotten more serious about making cycling an integral part of my daily life. I try to do most of my errands on a bike and I commute to work whenever I can. (Click on the the URL above to see my usual route to work.)

... and I still like the sense of freedom it gives me!

Road bike
Description:  I bought this bike in the Fall of 2007. It was a "project bike" that I bought at the local swap meet for $45. (Although it required very little work!) It's gray, with Suntour ARX derailleurs and downtube shifters. I gave it a custom cork handlebar wrap job.... complete with twine end wraps and a couple of coats of shellac.

I like this bike because it takes me back to a time when I was just getting interested in 10-speed bicycles. I use this bike for errands that don't require me to haul anything very heavy, occasional group rides or any time I feel like a dose of nostalgia.

SWB Recumbent bike
Description:  I received this bike in May 2005 as a birthday present from my wife and kids. This is my first recumbent and I have really enjoyed the ergonomics.... it really helped reinvigorate my riding frequency.

The frame is designed by Milt Turner right here in Tucson, AZ. It's a short wheel base (front tire is behind the pedals) and is configured with Shimano components and Continental commuting-type tires. Most of the time, it's configured with racks and panniers for my commute to work. I did put skinnier tires on it for the 25th El Tour de Tucson in 2007.
