A big thanks for the "metric century" club here on bike journal. A fun way of keeping track!!! (oh, that last metric had an elev gain of 4733ft, the 17.3avg for 84 miles). Keep up the great work. Regards, Sloji.

History:

O First bike was actually one of those sit in the little metal car pedal thingies I rode and rode around my basement.

O From about the 4th to 6th grade did the Schwinn bike and it was my "take me away" bike.

O Like a lot of folks, just gave up cycling for other pursuits. (no comments)

O Did an MS ride in 1995 to raise money for 3 friends who were stricken with MS. Got me hooked on cycling. Due to a back injury, went "bent" in 1999. Speaking of back, I haven't looked back since. (Well..actually it's really hard on a recumbent so I use a mirror). Tried PBP. Trying again in 2011!!

Was in China most of the year from 2006 to 2009. Now back in West Linn Oregon and Palmetto Bay Florida...splitt'n time due to work. Know I wouldn't like to live in Florida year round.

Fall 2010 to South Africa where the road cycling ain't all that great so took up mountain biking and lov'n playing in the dirt

Summer of 2012: HOME to the United States for good.

O FALL 2012: Bought a home in Sunriver: 31 miles of paved bike paths and next door to miles of singletrack. Life is Good!!!

O Fall 2013 Off to Sao Paulo Brazil until June 2014. Not so good for cycling. :(
O 2014 June: Back in the USA and home is now Sunriver, Oregon.2016 GOALS

Road bike
Description:   Bought this in 2007 to tour Shanghai with the better half and to be able to converse and toodle in Oregon during the summer. In August 2010 will be heading to Johannesburg SA. Not so sure about cycling in that city!!

Uses a SRAM DualDrive 360 3x8/9 Rear Hub which eliminates the front derailer, making pack much easier and reducing possible derailer damage when traveling.

Packs In A Suitcase!! Okay... 2 suitcases for traveling.

click to enlarge 1998 Rans V-RexAchetta (For Sale)
SWB Recumbent bike
Description:  My "first" bent. Now called "Mellow Yellow" Rode it home. Next day did a metric and ended up smiling. Has been to a number of states and attempted PBP in '03. Sold it when I got the Strada. Just had the opportunity to re-kindle my romance with this bike and bought it back. It will be my "Miami When I'm There" bike and I will never part with this baby.
Shimano BB. Upgraded rear to a Deore XT to handle wider cassette for my wimp legs on hills. SRAM twist shifters. Upgraded flip it riser to a "TerraCycle" flip it and makes a world of difference in handling.

Update 07/07: Turned this into a "travel" bike by installing S&S couplers. Changed out the seat to a Bacchetta EuroMesh and added Bacchetta "tweener" handlebars. All accessories are FastBack products. Now my favorite bent!!

April 17, 2011: STOLEN!!! From my sis garage in Miami FL.

September 27, 2011: RECOVERED!!! Thanks to online bike buds who saw it for sale on Ebay. Had this bike for 12 years and hope for 12 more.
Aug 2012: Decided to pare down to one main bike and this is it. Sold off the rest of the stable because I also want to buy a mountain bike. JAN 2013: Repaired S&S coupler and decided time for a new paint job. Kept the paint "Mellow Yellow".

2017: Solld because it needs to be used by a "traveler". My big travel days are over and done. :)

SWB Recumbent bike
Description:  You gotta try a Bike Friday. This folding "fits in a suitcase" recumbent, is so much fun to ride. For 16" wheels the stability and speed is amazing.

December 17, 2006: Sadly the "Irish Mist" as I called her has been sold. Long may she ride.
May 2008: Well I bought another one with a trailer and traveling suitcase as a "collectible". She won't be ridden much...maybe a short self contained tour here and there.

August 2015: Bought another SRD even though I sold two before this one. SRD's are not made anymore so I figured I'd keep one as a "classic". Upgrading the steering system and the drive train. Will use this for Bike New York for sure.

Description:  Ti is forever is one reason I got this bike, plus I think it just looks simply elegant.

At 22 lbs it is very light for a recumbent. Bacchetta EuroMesh seat. Shimano 105 front and rear derailers. Xero Lite 650 wheels. Rotor Cranks (52-39-26) with an 11-27 cogset that I'll change out to an 11-34 so I can climb hills with "nothing in 'em at all" legs. Aug 09: Upgraded the rear derailer to a SRAM XT long reach and did change out the rear cogset for an 11-34. New Conti Gatorskin tires makes for a nice, nice ride.

click to enlarge 2006 Giant ONYA (Sold 04/09 sigh)
Hardtail XC Mountain bike
Description:  Living in Shanghai, I needed a bike for a Friday afternoon ride that goes over ruts, trenches, canyons, potholes, bumps, more bumps and then some bigger bumps.

This is a mtn bike with a front suspension. Switched out the knobbys for street tires, added a rear rack, bottle cage, and fenders.

If I told you little this bike cost, well you know the rest. One last thought: 20 miles on this reconfirms why I love recumbents (End of shameless plug). April 09: We're not in Shanghai any more Toto.

Lifetime Odometer: 888.5 miles

click to enlarge 2006 Bacchetta GIRO 20 (SOLD FEB 2010)
SWB Recumbent bike
Description:  Giro 20 sports a 26" rear and 20" front wheel. Stock except for the rear drive train with an upgraded derailer to a Deore XT and a cogset with a nice 11-34 range. The stock Recurve seat was exchanged for the Bacchetta EuroMesh seat. Front wheel has a disc brake. Hmm...prolly not necessary in flat Miami!!

This bent will be used when I'm working in Miami.

Lifetime Odometer: 3,740.3 miles

click to enlarge 2003 Bacchetta STRADA (SOLD)
SWB Recumbent bike
Description:  Upgraded from a V-REX. This is one sweeeeet fast bike. I be slow. But, on my first ride with this bike I was able to pull a paceline of 5 DF's at about 20 mph into the wind. The thank you's were much appreciated and I thanked the bike.

September 2006: Decided to take this to Shanghai China to help me explore that part of the world. After 2 months the STRADA has been retired from the "Friday over rutted and back bumpy roads ride". A GIANT moountain bike took her place. We don't want to damage the pretty rims do we?

Shimano thingies and some other good stuff.

Aug 07: Hated to sell it, but for the next 24 months it would sit in the garage for 21 of them. She needs to be ridden and fast!!!
