I bought a cheap Trek mountain bike in 2002 for exercise. I enjoyed mountain biking but had little time to travel to the trails. In 2004-5 I lived with my family in China where I purchased a horrible road bike for $80 (see picture). I was immediately drawn to the speed of road riding. In August 2006 I finally bought my Trek 1000. Probably 75% of my miles are from commuting (12.5 mi one way, occasionally a longer route on the way home). Commuting is the best way to get in a lot of miles while still being available for my family. I'm 6'2" and weigh 160.

As of November 2014, I have cycled the equivalent of the earth's circumference.

miles: ca. 1,800 (no computer in China)
miles: 2,493
miles: 4,180
miles: 3,572
miles: 1,668 (no more commuting on the bike while I take my children to school with me.)
miles: 1,875
miles: 1,878 (missed 2 months due to back issues)
miles: 2,361
miles: 2,432
miles: 2,801
miles: 2,775
