Moved to Folsom, CA in the spring of 2008 from Silicon Valley, and started riding the bike my daughter so generously gave me the year before. Took a couple of months to join a "Meetup" bike club, and then joined the Sacramento Bike Hikers in March of 2009, mostly to find weekday riders. That led to joining the Sacramento Wheelmen as well, both of which turned me into a mileage junkie. It's obsessive, I know, but all that riding enables me to indulge my ice cream cone habit. And to meet some great people in some great places.
Missed my mileage goal in 2015, having to stay off the bike for 2 months after accessorizing with a pacemaker. Here I thought that low heart rate was due to all the riding. Seems there was something else at work there as well. Life is good.
And now a new phase. As a reward for reaching the 120,000 mile mark, I've got a new ride, an Orbea Gain M30, featuring electric "assist." We'll see where that takes me.

Road bike
Description:  My first road bike, and it has served me well. I liked the triple it came with, especially after adding an 11/28 cassette. But now it is reserved for the wet roads of winter or steep climbing days, like doing passes in the Pyrenees. Or as my backup bike when foolish things happen to the other ones.

Road bike
Description:  Bianchi's "comfortable" race bike initially didn't seem very comfortable, but then I grew to love it. Sorry to the Bianchi purists out there, but I preferred the red to the "celeste."
This bike, along with my wife's Pinarello F1, was stolen out of my garage the night after riding it around Lake Tahoe.

Road bike
Description:  The Bianchi replacement, with the addition of Di2 shifting. Sweet, indeed.
But I totaled it in a crash after 25.4k miles. Its replacement will be the 2015 version of the same bike.

Electric bike
Description:  The reward for reaching my 10 year mileage goal of 120,000 miles. The unique feature is that it isn't pure electric power, but variable levels of "assist" that supplements your own pedaling effort. There is no free lunch, but this is pretty tasty.
