I was certainly surprised when Stu caught me the first morning before I even got on my bike and then we went and had breakfast. I enjoyed meeting you as well. I had a great Ragbrai (as always0, hopefully I will catch you at another ride near here sometime soon.

Like most of you, my love for cycling began as a youngster when I first discovered that my shiny red two wheeler, was my ticket to adventure! In '73 I bought the wife and me matching Raleigh 5 speed touring bikes which we rode many miles together. And like most of you parents, I carried my kids on the back of my bike for a number of years as well! Then when they could stay up on two wheels by themselves, we all rode together....trails, parks, neighborhood streets, and paper routes! I got away from cycling for many years, then decided one day that I needed to start taking better care of myself so I borrowed my son's Schwinn mountain bike for a few weeks. It felt good to be back on the saddle! In 2006 I bought a Trek hybrid and the excitement of being on a bike was just like I'd always remembered! Now cycling is my 'therapy'. I discovered recumbent riding in '07 and have become a 'bent fanatic! I've enjoyed many miles of riding with family and friends, especially with my wife and my son, "teamkingstreet". (I appreciate that when I'm along, he keeps the pace at a tolerable level!) Someone has said, "when I was a kid, riding a bicycle made me feel like a grown up, now that I'm a grown up, riding a bicycle makes me feel like a kid". It's great to feel like a kid again!!
BTW- that's Teamkingstreet on the back of the Raleigh 5-speed! Got him hooked on cycling at an early age!

In the fall of '07 I had the wonderful experience to mountain bike with my 29 year old son, teamkingstreet, in the Sierra Madre Mts near Puerta Vallarta Mexico. We climbed/rode a gruelling 60kms on a one lane washed out mountain road and enjoyed some of the best mountain scenery in Mexico. Conquered the "Killer Donkey" and celebrated with Gatorade and tasty Mexican sugar cookies in the village of San Padro.
In the spring of '08 I did some mountain biking with my son-in-law in the foothills of the Dolomite Mts. in Aviano Italy on some killer, rock strewn, single and double track trails!

I sold my fishing boat (which I loved) to buy this little beauty (which I love even more)!
I call her "Mello Yellow"! Nothing to do with the drink or the song, just a sweet ride!

In 2012 I installed the Velocity wheel set from the P38, changing the rear from a 26" to a 700mm. Added a P38 riser and lightened it up a bit too. A very nice ride.

In 2020 I converted the Phantom to e-assist with components from Grin Technologies. Added a 250watt motor and 48volt/14ah battery. Also changed the handle bars to a Bachetta arrangement, replaced all cables, brake calipers and grip shifters. Basically it’s a new bike.
