I'll start... From January 1st...

About 4 years ago, in an effort to spread the word of how much fun riding Fat-Bikes in the snow is, I started a Back Yard Fat-Bike Time Trial event. I would invite my friends to come to my house and ride the singletrack trails in my back yard that I have groomed (by snowshoe stomping) and we would time each other. There would be food, fun, hilarity, some good natured trash talking, a warm fire, (in and out of the house depending on temperature) and I'd give prizes (usually Twinkies, Beef Jerky, white elephant gifts and old bike parts I never used) to the Slowest (Because I am slow, the slow riders get better prizes than the fastest riders) and fastest times. If you didn't have a Fat Bike you could borrow one of mine or someone else's.
The 1st year, i had 8 people show up. But the word got out about how much fun we were having and last years event had over 30 riders! And, two other friends decided to open their back yard trails and host their own race, creating the Back Yard Series.

Here are some photos from my friend Nathin's Back Yard Time Trial on New Years Day. My camera batteries died in the sub zero temps, so I only got a few pictures.

Few things in life are as fun and beautiful as riding your Fat-Bike in the snow.
The fun and beauty level gets knocked up a few notches after the sun sets and the lights are charged.

About to hit some virgin snowy singletrack...

It was gorgeous out!

Looking back...

PSI adjustment break...

Rest break...

WOW; Fatbike through the virgin snow trail at sundown and at dusk; what a nice adventure. Almost makes me want to visit this place to cross country ski and, or, ride a borrowed bike. Almost like the Tughill trail in upstate, western NY.

I tried for years to learn how to xc ski, but never could acquire the skills that would make it fun (I'm a clumsy ox). It's a beautiful activity when done correctly!
When I discovered Fat-Bikes I instantly said "I can ride a bike!" The Fat-Bike along with snowshoes have made winter my favorite season.

And... Snowshoeing your trail is a great way to make them rideable and get exercise! when the snow is too deep to ride.

P.S. I highly recommend finding a fat bike to rent or try on groomed trails.

The recent heat wave here in northern Illinois melted all of my glorious snow, and along with an all day rain, frozen ground and a short return to temps below freezing, the quarry on our back property is now a skating rink. At least it will be when the ice gets thick enough to ride on. Unfortunately, some of my trails are under that ice.
Here are some photos from my warmest ride of the year, 30F.

Me and Levo down by the schoolyard.

This might be my best post.

It has been a crazy here for the weather. Near 60 on Saturday, snow tonight with highs in the low 30's tomorrow, then highs near 60 again on Wednesday, then back down to 32 for a high on Friday.
