We are moving to Ocala, so I'm just wondering if there are any paved bike trails around the SW area (on the west side of I-75). I know there are some trails closer to town, but its a long way to go...

I don't know about paved trails, but there are some great rural roads out that way. Just go exploring.

And join the Gainesville cycling club. They run the Horse Farm 100 out that way every year. The web site has lots of info on rides in that part of Florida.

One of the best rails-to-trails paved bike route is just south of Ocala; the Withlachoochee Trail, which is some 41 miles long and is very popular. I have traveled this trail many times.

i was going to tell you about the Withlacoochee Trail, but dasmith44 already has. I did a century ride there a few years ago and LOVED it. If memory serves me correct, it is the longest continuous bike trail in the state, and there are good parks (read: bathrooms) and nearby services all along the way. This was one of my favorite places to go ride when I was down there chasing hurricanes in 2004-2006.

Ditto, and ditto.
We just got back from Florida and the Withlacoochie is one of my favorite haunts when down there. Miles and miles of great riding. Road crossings are not bad and I encountered very cordial motorists at the crossings. It's worth the trip. Bring your camera.

Like everyone has said, Withlacoochee Trail is not to far from Ocala and I ride it every year and enjoy riding with no traffic headaches and a good place to meet other cyclist. And to verify what 67walkon stated, every fall Gainesville has a couple events going on, I do them almost every year. Goodluck and I'm sure when your up there you'll find all the road trails.
