 Funny Mid-Week Ride
Today I drove to the tennis courts at Cleveland Park to meet Ken and Don H for an easy ride up the trail. Before we left a couple stopped in the lot and appeared to be lost. They were staying in Greenville for the week and looking to ride the trail. They got on the trail downtown and made their way into Cleveland Park but were lost by the several trail closures and detours. We told them that we were headed up and we invited them to ride with us. We worked our way through the detours and headed up the trail and took our time going up the trail explaining things from the past and what is planned for the future. We also circled the lake at Furman. Joe and I rode together and we had a nice chat. They live in Ontario and are here for the week to go riding. We rode to our normal turn-around across from Sunrift Outfitters. Joe and Jill decided to head back down the trail. Ken, Don, and I rode to Upcountry Provisions. I had a Traveler sandwich with a pickle spear and some potato salad. While there Mark dropped in with us. We rode back down the trail, but Don’s bike locked up just short of the Pocket Park. He tried to call Carlo and Nate but got no answer. I called Cis and she headed out to pick him up. We pushed his bike to the pocket park and started checking it out. Ken found the lock nut for the cassette had worked its way loose and was locking up the wheel. Ken tightened it by hand which was enough to ride. I called Cis so that she wouldn’t come on out. We stopped at Carolina Triathlon and had them tighten it with their specialized wrench. After that we rode back through Falls Park, but Don turned off at the Cancer Survivor’s Park and we headed up the wooden walkway to the top of Church Street. Then we headed down the other side and went through a tunnel that Don had found. Ken said that it led to a whole different land. It did - it led to "broken glass land." We rode back up the hill then down the covered walkway again. When we got back to Cleveland Park, Ken decided to ride through the old stable area. We finally made it back to the lot for a good ride.
