 Man Vs Wind
Bright sunshine and spring like temperatures ruled the day but the incessant wind hampered an otherwise perfect weather riding day. Started off the day with a mediocre steep climb up Havana. Stood up on the bottom portion and over the last short steep section but languished weakly spinning a small gear ration over the middle section of the climb. Came up with a lackluster six point eight. After that the ride got unpleasant for a bit as I had to ride another sixteen miles into a brisk headwind. Didn't enjoy it much as the wind rushing past my ears made me practically deaf. I was unable to hear any birdsong and had difficulty even hearing traffic approach me from behind. And there was heavy traffic today as it seems everyone was out enjoying the nice weather, cheap gas, and the Wuhan Flu Holiday. Can't say as I blame them though as government officials and climate scientists keeps telling us we are all going to be extinct in eleven years from global warming. Why sweat the flu? Got through the sixteen miles of headwind and started the two mile climb up Swartwood. Didn't do much on the climb. Heart rate remained low and ended up pushing a fairly high gear as couldn't develop any speed with a spin. Still saw some snow along the roadside but fields and hillsides appeared clean of the white curse. Reward for cresting the hill was another ten miles of crosswinds. It wasn't really too bad as it was mostly downgrade and the further I went the wind became less and less in my face before becoming almost a true crosswind by the time I got to Horseheads. Did pass one old guy on a mountain bike that was booking right along. He had a bike computer but was also wearing jeans, so not sure I could rate him as an actual cyclist. Caught a good tailwind down the slot from Horseheads but couldn't do to much with it as my legs were warn down. Really not a very productive day overall but it was nice to get out in the sunshine.
