Have developed a head cold so opted for a short ride though I generally do a long slow ride on Wednesday. Tried to ride hard to make up for the shorted distance and had a good start with a strong climb up Old Odessa and a good effort on SR 228 to Smith Valley. After seven good miles it all fell apart when the north wind kicked in and I got caught in a heavy shower. It definitely took the wind out of my sails, and I went into survival mode. Pretty much got soaked and really didn't need it as already nursing a cold. Rain stopped as I rolled into Mecklenburg and did the second climb of the day up SR 79 at an easy pace. Didn't get any sun but the warm wind helped to dry me out and had a good hill sprint on the short climb to Bennettsburg. Caught a strong headwind on Skyline and had a high-speed descent into Montour that was fairly thrilling. Did well for half the ride but the rain was not fun.
