 Touring Speed
Weather actually wasn't too bad today for riding despite temperature that hovered around fifty and no sun. The lack of significant wind more than made up for the other shortcomings. Did a couple of long climbs today one up CR 16 to Townsend and the other up Whiskey Creek outside of Caton. Most of the day was spent at touring speed and my heart rate did nothing in the red zone and a miniscule amount in the orange. First climb was on the cool side, but once I got past Monterey I picked up a light tailwind and it warmed up to fifty. Cruised along and saw many people outside mowing lawns and doing yardwork. Just shows how bad the weather has been when people are out of the house when its almost May and the temperature is still rather cool. Cruised with the tailwind to East Campbell where the wind shifted and staretd to come from the south. Only had a couple of miles of it so cant complain as the south wind would be at my back for the last twenty miles of the ride. Spun up the whiskey Creek climb with little effort and coasted downhill for several miles back into Elmira. Actually saw another rider out today as I was buzzed coming down 352 into Elmira. The local talent said hi and then pulled quickly away. Picked up my speed a little to pace him but stayed mellow and just stalked him. He didn't look too fast though as he was pushing a large gear at a low cadence and didn't seem much of a threat if things got competitive. Paced him for a couple miles until he turned off into a side street. Rest of the ride was a comfortable pace with a tailwind with many of the miles trending downward. Average speed was less than impressive but got nearly seventy pleasant riding miles in.
