 Bummer
Haven't had much initiative to ride with all the events I had scheduled or registered for this spring have been postponed or cancelled. That and the recent sub-freezing weather or snow have kept me inside and have been off the diet for awhile now. Today though showed promise, though initially a cold damp day, the forecast called for an emergent sun and the subsequent temperature skyrocketing up to near fifty. Had my doubts about the forecast, but finally saw the sun and donned my winter garb and headed out for a short ride. A moderate wind was blowing out of the south so opted to do the ride Ridge Road with an early six miles of climbing then twenty miles of downhills. Sun stayed out until I got to the end of my driveway and that was the last I saw of it. Had a horrendous climb up Jackson Hill no doubt a result of my ever increasing weight and low morale. Pushing into a cold steady wind wasn't much help either. Made Catherine with a nine four average a couple of miles below a normal climb. Thought I might have an easier time as I made the ninety degree turn in Catherine, but was crestfallen when I was immediately greeted with a large gust in my face. Turned out to be not as bad as the first half of the climb as at least some of the wind was occasionally a crosswind. Climbed above the snowline to finish off the ascent in Seymourville. Rallied a bit on the downhill and developed some good speed despite the wind. Made the final turn in Horseheads and decided to try and get the average up to seventeen over the last eleven miles of downgrade. Failed miserably though as had a mix of crosswinds and tailwind instead of the tailwind I expected. Lost too much time on the climbs to achieve the seventeen and the cold and damp didn't help. Got some miles in but didn't enjoy it much. Better forecast for tomorrow , so maybe there is some hope for better days ahead.
