Weather was nice enough that I attempted my first trip around Seneca Lake today. It started out a bit on the cool side with the temperature hovering just below fifty, but the wind was only a gentle north breeze. Iron Doug decided to ride the first few miles with me before spurring off into the hills around Penn Yan. Early cool temperature really wasn't that bad as the ride starts out with a long climb out of Watkins. Kept an easy pace through Amish country and it seemed strange not to have dozens of buggies and bicycles on the road as they made there way to or from church. That pretty much answered our question of weather Il Duce had closed down their churches too, and if they would comply. Kept a steady pace to Dresden and rolled through with a seventeen miles an hour average. Doug headed off into the hills and I picked up my pace a little to try to beat the wind that was scheduled to start blowing harder as the day heated up. There were quite a few people in the lake park in Geneva despite the apocalypse. Also saw a few cyclists out and about which was more than I usually see. Wind did start picking up as I rounded the lake and headed toward home which worked out well as it was now going to be forty miles of ever increasing tailwind. Didn't head down the East Lake Road but stayed on the highway as the lake still harbors a fair amount of cold and wanted to keep some distance from it. Sun came out as I neared Ovid and stopped in a lay by and took off my leg warmers, A few minutes after I got them off though the went behind some clouds and the temperature dropped back into the fifties. Since I was climbing it really wasn't too bad, and the sun did return as I rolled into Schuyler County. The wind had picked up to a steady ten miles an hour that allowed me to make great time with little effort over the last ten miles of the ride. It turned out to be one of the easiest trips I've made around the lake and had a good average for a cruising pace.
