 Test Ride
Finished assembling the new bike and took it out for a shakedown ride. Weather was not very cooperative with cool temperatures, dampness and a wicked south wind. Spun in the wind to Millport and climbed up Burch Hill. Climbing with the bike didn't seem any different from my other bikes but it appeared to respond quicker in the rolling terrain on the Middle Road. It probably was just the boost the legs get from riding a new bike. Thought I would try out the sprint since this frame was supposedly deigned with input from Cipollini and anticipated good results. Unfortunately after turning out of the wind in Horseheads and shifting into the big chainring, I found that the tail of the front derailleur brushed against the crank arm. Worked fine on the stand but less so in the field. Ended up returning home in the small chainring but still got in a good sprint into Millport. Was able to easy break the thirty mile an hour mark into town with a thirty two plus in the small ring. Bike felt very responsive. Spun home and put the bike on the stand. Ended up having to shim the front derailleur mount that is fortunately a "bolt on" braze on. Problem solved I took the bike back out for another short ride to test the shifting. It was getting late and the wind was getting constantly worse and so just took a short ride to Watkins to test things out. Shifted through several iterations of gearing and everything worked fine.
