 Sofrider -vs- Quest
As the owner of 2 Cruzbikes -the somewhat unique and rare FWD recumbent bikes, I consider myself an aficionado on FWD recumbents -Cruzbike's specifically..

Sofrider -vs- Quest
Some comparative thought after nearly 9,000 miles on the 2 FWD designs -(Cruzbike's forte of uniqueness). I'm beginning to solidify some impressions on the difference between these two models.

I've modified the basic components of the Sofrider with a 700c x 1.25" front wheel and tire, plus a triple crank setup, Power Grip pedals, and full fenders too. The Quest is stock -except for the front stem, pedals and 1.25" wide tires.

  • Even as the Sofrider outweighs the Quest by 8 pounds or so, I'm faster on the Sofrider -vs- the Quest.

  • Sofrider adapts very well to my body geometry.

  • Gearing on the lighter Quest has a reasonable high end, but is not geared quite as low compared to Sofrider.

  • The Sofrider climbs a bit easier due to gearing and perhaps its 700c -vs- 26.0" front wheel.
    Again the frame geometry differs.

  • The handlebar on the Quest is closer to my chest -due mainly to the difference in the shorter stem height. That equates to less pulling power on climbs and a less comfortable arm position.

  • Higher seating on the Sofrider does not translate over to a higher center of gravity mostly because of the heavier frame.

It's been great commuting on bike this Spring. Cruzbikes are a quick, aerodynamic way to get somewhere. Cruzbikes have all the allure of recumbent biking with an added increase in climbing ability and maneuverability.

I expect to do some tweaking yet on the Quest, which could change/improve my performance on that bike. Wish I could afford a Vendetta too.
