The first BossHaug Subterranean Cycle Camp and we complain about the weather
However, it was good to ride in a group. Thanks for coming over.

I rode with centuryhunter at the Northwest Illinois Century last weekend.I met him at that same ride in '07 after which we logged some rainy and cold miles together. He is a lot of fun to ride with and is always concerned about those around him. He's a pretty decent climber as he rides circles around me when I'm riding up just about any hill. I'm looking foreward to some future rides with him yet this year.

Back in 2000 I was looking for an aerobic activity to get back into shape. Years ago I use to do and enjoy the occasional organized bike rides so I decided to knock off the dust from my old ten speed. But somehow that didn't seem to be enough to keep me motivated. I thought it would be more motivational and a good use of my time to do a ride for charity. (Ya know, the ole "two birds with one stone" angle - get in shape *and* raise money for charity.)

So after some research I settled in on the MS 150 ride. I trained, raised money and completed the MS 150 back in 2001; an event in my adult life I'll never forget. It had such an impact I've done the ride every year since. Top notch ride, organization and cause.

My latest goal (2007) is to complete my first century (100 miles). And once again I've chosen the MS 150, now named the MS Bike Tour, as the stage to achieve it. With an early start to my training and a brand new road bike, hopefully this will be the first of many centuries, that is, assuming the body can keep up with the mind. ;)

Update: Unfortunately fate had other plans for me than completing a century in 2007, therefore I will attempt it again in 2008.

Update: Completed my first century in 2008 at the BikeMS event! 182 miles in two days.

Road bike
Description:  Purchased bike new back in August 1977. (I'm assuming it was a 1977 model at the time.) This 10 speed bike is solid as it endured such things as wheelies back in my youth. It has continued to be reliable and has been thru many rides and miles. If I decide to commute to work this work horse will get the nod.

Overall mileage unknown. Mileage displayed started in Jan. 2007.

Vintage bike
Description:  After my one and only trike, this was my first bike. I even had training wheels on it for a while. This copper colored muscle bike was a single speed with a banana seat and monkey handlebars. (Remember those terms?!?)

Given the above and the photo was hand-dated May 1970, my guess (with help from OldRoads.com) is that it was a 1966, 67 or 68 Schwinn Sting-Ray, Radiant Coppertone colored. (I could be wrong. If you have info to the contrary from looking at the photo, please buddy list me and let me know. Thanks!)

The bike was acquired from an gas station promotion, which back then used the tiger to help promote its gasoline. "Enco gasoline puts a tiger in your tank!" Pretty corny, but hey, it was the sixties. Note the tiger print banana seat. The bike was stolen right out the garage along with another bike to never be seen or ridden again, at least by me.

Full Susp XC Mountain bike
Description:  Rented or borrowed MTB. At a MS150 charity ride there was a team, who happened to also play soccer together, had one of the most appropriate and funniest jerseys I've seen. It's a little hard to make out from this small picture but the back of the jersey above a picture of soccer ball with flames tailing from it, read "Numb Nuts, Sore Butts and Balls of Fire"
