  Yo Hermann, a car is useless these days if you live in an urban area like me. A bicycle is 99% of the time faster than a car, it doesn't need gas, doesn't polute and make you healthier. Congrats!

Herman Glad to help you anyway I can with Pitts to Wash info. From Pitts to Cumberland you may be able to get away with no reservations ,but as you get closer to DC I doubt it. Two great websites can give you all info including lodging info Type in C and O Canal bike trail and also Allegheny Passage trail and see what you find Email me at trv1@verizon.net. I wouldn,t do ride on a recumbent. Too many obstacles not viewable quick enough from low profile .I have maps etc. Let me know how you make out if you go
