I have been cycling since I was little. I have moved through all levels of bicycles, BMX, mountain bike, 10-speed, 12-speed…
1980’s - During high school I worked at a bike shop after school taking care of merchandising, cleaning, and an occasional flat tire repair. I rode to school and to work. I had the best bike at school, of course all of my paycheck stayed at the bike shop buying the latest thing.
1990’s - A few years later my bike was stolen from work (not the bike shop) and I took a few years off and spent most of my time skateboarding. By the end of the decade I was shopping for a new bike and ended up borrowing one from a friend. I fixed it up and after a trip or two around the block I set off on a 36-mile trip to Colossal Cave and back. The trip took 3:45:00 and I felt like I was going to die. Today I do the trip in less than 2 hours.
2000’s – Been riding most of the time with the exception of a few injuries. Rode my first recorded century, participated in my first race, and have spent more money on bikes than on cars. Oh, that’s cause I don’t own a car, just a motorcycle.
2009
I now have a car but have still spent more on bikes!
