Started biking again in August 2005 right after my birthday, after not having ridden more than a mile at a time in at least 15 years. Finished 2006 at about 1800 miles, and did just a little more in 2007. Starting 2008 with a new bike--a custom Bianchi Vigorelli I built up myself starting with a frame purchased on EBay--and a goal of 3000.

Organized Rides:

2006
100K course on the Outlaw Trail 100 (Round Rock, TX)

2007
27 mile course on the Pedal Through the Pines (Bastrop, TX)
100K course on the Rosedale Ride (Austin, TX)
100K course on the Pedal Power Wildflower Ride (Stonewall, TX)

2008
50 mile course on the Pedal Through the Pines (Bastrop, TX)

Road bike

Lifetime Odometer: 739.5 miles

1994 Miyata Nine 16
Road bike
Description:  The purple one, from what was apparently the last year that Miyata imported into the US. Somewhere along the line somebody replaced the nice 105 double setup with a Sora Triple, Sora Flightdeck brifters, cheap wheels, and awful brakes. Upgrade with Mavic Open Pro on Ultegra and Microshift 8-speed double shifters & derailleurs.

Lifetime Odometer: 103.6 miles

Road bike
Description:  58cm frame. Updated original Shimanoo 600 group to Campagnolo Chorus 8-speed groupset (wheels, shifters, deraillerus, brakes, stem).

Lifetime Odometer: 225.6 miles

1987 Centurion Ironman Expert Dave Scott
Road bike
Description:  Beautifully maintained 58cm frame. Upgrading components from standard 105 group to full Shimano 600 (brifters, derailleurs, brakes) and Mavic Open 4 wheelset on Dura Ace hubs.

Lifetime Odometer: 31.6 miles

1983 Miyata 210
Touring Road bike
Description:  A $100 Craigslist find. Good looking relatively lightweight frame, triple-butted CroMo and nice pantographs. Viability of most components questionable -- will replace as needed and see what I end up with, because who knows when I'll need a lightweight touring bike.

Lifetime Odometer: 0.0 miles

1996 Miyata RidgeRunner Team
Trail/All Mountain bike
Description:  A $50 Craigslist find! Not certain on year. Beautiful triple-butted cro-mo frame -- some chipping but no real damage, Deore DX components that look to be in good shape under the grime. Maybe I'll find a use for it, or maybe I'll sell it once it's looking and riding like it should.

Lifetime Odometer: 1.5 miles

700c Hybrid bike
Description:  The year is a guess. So is much else about this one--I haven't been able to find any information online about the "Katmandu". But it's very like what they call a "commuter bike" these days: road geometry, fatter tires than a road bike (700x28), cantilever brakes, flat bars, and a triple up front with smaller than road gearing (50-40-30). Pretty much all the components are Shimano Exage, and they mostly appear to be in mint condition. I'm hoping to make it my primary commuting vehicle sometime soon.

November '08--Replaced flat bar and mountain shifters/levers with Midge bars, Tektro aero levers, and Dia-Compe bar end shifters, much improving the riding experience

2015 update -- still have this one but it's in pieces and subject to scavenging.

Lifetime Odometer: 340.5 miles

Lost November 2013.

Road bike
Description:  Dave Scott model. 58cm, Tange #1 Cro-moly, Shimano 600 components (brakes, derailleurs, cranks), Dura-Ace bar end shifters, Mavic rims on Shimano 600 hubs, Scott profile bars. May 2007 -- replaced crank & FD with FSA Energy Compact 50/34 with an Isis BB, and a new Shimano 105 FD which seemed happier with the compact crank than the old 600 derailleur.

After making this my primary ride for several months, I eventually realized it was too small for me. Sold it in November 2007 to begin financing the acquisition and build up of a new Bianchi Vigorelli frame.

Lifetime Odometer: 1,245.9 miles

Tires:
700 x 23C Hutchinson Fusion Long Distance, front, 967 miles
700 x 23C Hutchinson Fusion Long Distance, rear, 967 miles

Road bike
Description:  My beater and hill trainer. An ugly shade of teal, but a surprisingly light and well-made frame, with good components (Shimano 105 wheels, Ultegra triple and FD, Tiagra RD, 105 downtube shifters, 105 brakes). Plus it's a great climber, and how you can beat those Hellenic stays?

Lifetime Odometer: 809.1 miles

Tires:
700 x 23C Michelin Speedium, front, 616 miles
700 x 23C Michelin Speedium, rear, 616 miles

Road bike
Description:  Standard burgandy-color Track 10. But check out the nifty On One Gary bars. Sold April 2009.

Lifetime Odometer: 23.5 miles

click to enlarge 2005 Dahon Cadenza (retired)
Folding bike
Description:  I bought the Cadenza because I needed a bike that would fit into the trunk of my Passat, but it turned out to be a surprisingly quick ride. Not real confortable after 25 miles or so, but I could keep up with my road bike buddies up to that point. I finally sold this one after neglecting it for a year--it was a cool bike, but my road bikes just stole my heart away.

Lifetime Odometer: 444.0 miles
