I broke my clavical 14 years ago when I hit a rabbit. But saturday a strong gust of wind pushed me into the left-rear quarter of a parked SUV. Verdict at the ER: 5 broken ribs and a rare case of a broken scapula. The scapula shows up clearly on x-ray image as 3 big pieces and some fragments. I won't ride again till January, probably, which kills my plan to ride El Tour de Tucson next month.
Has anyone else out in BJ Land broken a scapula? I'm interested to read your experience with it. Feels like an axe-attack to my upper back!

No, I have not broken my scapula - collar bone and ribs, yes. I feel for you though - I hope that helps some.

That must have been some hit. I have no experience with that level of injury, just a fractured clavicle 2 years ago and a fractured radius in August. The only advice I can offer is do what your doctors tell you and start physiotherapy as soon as you can.

I broke my scapula in the first race I did, 30 years ago. It did not break into pieces though, just split in two. They did not do anything for it, said it would grow back which it did.

Dang, I t-boned a van at 40mph and all I did was break the tip of my elbow off. Well, maybe there was a hundred stitches or so and some road rash but nothing like that! Wonder if your old break never healed all the way?

Not sure if I may have had slight fracture once. I do have a bone spur on one from something. I have broken my clavicle, suffered an apparent crush fracture of pelvis and crushed 2 vertebrae. I missed 3 months of cycling getting my vertebrae fused with titanium rods. I could train with a broken clavicle sitting upright.
Axeattack indeed. Good luck.
Ouch. I hate the broken rib thing too.

Good luck. In 2014 I broke my clavicle, had a Grade 5 equivalent AC seperation repair, broke multiple ribs and this ever persistant TBI thing. No scapula fracture but worst pain I had was some muscle attached to it and called it a drooping scapula. Surgery took care of it. It was the worst pain I had ever had, except for the sneezing.

Oh, sneezing with cracked ribs is insanely painful.
