While exploring New Zealand via Google Street View, I discovered it was done from a bicycle!

That is very cool, I use Google Street View whenever I want to ride in a new area to check out the road conditions like if there is a shoulder or if the road is riddled with pot-holes. I also visit many cities that I will never travel to just to get a glimpse of what the city looks like.

I tried Google Street View here in Germany, but it is not available for most places. Personal privacy and anti-surveillance laws prevent it from being used here.

In other countries including the USA, I find it useful to get an idea of road conditions, or of a specific location if I am searching for an address. If you are searching for an address, it helps to have an idea of what the house or building looks like

My parents street was done by a car/van, mainly because I think it would be too steep to do on a bicycle. Actually. looks like most of Dunedin was done in a van, so maybe its just Wellington where they used a bicycle.

Most of it is done from a van or car. A bike would be too wobbly. I don't see the shadow of the camera in that shot.

A little off-post but as I recall, HairyKiwi was captured in a picture as he rode in Florida.

I was captured in the car once (w/1020ski) but they updated it and we're gone now.

I have checked my bikejournal routes with the dates (Month & Year) of Google Map Street View, but have yet to find myself out riding.
