Every night for the last three weeks I have had a twitching calf muscle in my right leg that doesn't seem to go away. I'm fine when I am up and moving around, but when I sit and go to bed at night it twitches. Enough to keep me from a goodnights sleep, I'm getting 3 maybe 4 hrs of sleep and now its effecting my daytime routine.

So I decided to stay off my bike (which I'm not overdoing it anyways) for 3 weeks to rest my legs. I've also soaked my legs in Epson salts and tooken some supplements. I'm not even sure if this is bike related but anyways {I thought maybe if any of you other riders have gone thru this you could hit me up with some pointers}

I also am on my feet all day at work but this rest hasn't helped me it seems. Its starting to worry me I've never had this problem before over this long a period. I've had cramps after my long rides sometimes which only last a day but never this long. If this persists I'll have to see Mr Doctor

Thanks to anyone for any pointers.....Richard

See your MD. centenoschultz.com/calf-muscle-twitching/

Muscle cramping is sometimes helped with electrolytes, especially magnesium. You can get Magnesium from pills, liquids, or absorbed through skin from the Alum salts.

I want to preface this by saying that I am not a doctor and you should see yours for a definite diagnosis. Could it possibly be Restless Legs Syndrome? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Restless_legs_syndrome

Restless legs is usually diagnosed with a sleep study because you aren't aware of the movements. I have been diagnosed with it, despite not feeling the urges mentioned.

On your feet all day. Perhaps orthotic arch supports. Have you tried "rollers" on your calf muscles? As others have suggested supplements such as sodium, calcium, and magnesium together with drinking lots and lots of water. Has it been unusually hot in Florida? That's all I got my man, good luck.

It has been really hot, with no afternoon rain to cool things down

Thanks for all the input, Ive heard using rollers on your muscles breaks up the lactate acid build up. I'm going to try that before bed GWM. I browsed the Internet and Restless leg syndrome came up. But as maschwab said your unaware of your leg movements during sleep which in my case I definetly notice my twitches and there really a pain in the you know what.

As HK stated it has been unusually hot down here but I've stayed hydrated while riding. Hopefully I'll have better night sleeps to come

Please ask your doctor to order you a full panel blood test. There could be several things slightly wrong, which actually could be easy to change. Your blood test will help emensly. Do it now.

Thanks for the correction. I'm not really familiar with either condition so I was guessing.

Not a Doc here either but a few suggestions.

1. I am on my feet all day in retail standing on concrete. I had borderline and also at times plantar fasciitis. There are shoes made specifically for that. They have more cushion in their soles. I started out with Asics gel nimbus and they kind of worked. I then switched to Brooks Adrenaline and they have models 18 and 19. All my problems have gone away. They sell them at Dicks where you could get your sizing. They sell for $150 but you can find last years models online for $79.

2. Lastly after my hammer rides I do the warm shower and then hit my legs with as cold water as I can stand. Works the same as icing. That might calm your legs down some before you go to bed.

3. This probably should be 1st but go see your Doc.

Good luck
Zman
