Thanks to all your efforts and especially to Andre Hamel who prepared the inauguration words for Circa. The following has been added to the HOF thread as post #10.

CIRCA REGIL

BikeJournal is populated by many eccentrics but for sure, CircaRigel aka Belinda Williams was truly a special gentle one.

She was born in Fremont California (1974) and forever has been an athlete (volleyball, cross country running, skiing, etc). She became a clever young woman passionate for active life and she got an offer from CSU to join their track team while at college where she could study microbiology.

Unfortunately, a nasty crash from her bike broke a disc in her neck just before (2009) and on top of it, she developed an illness that made her anemic and without an immune system. But she recovered and returned to a normal life developing a strong interest for medical study that she pursued for the rest of her life.

She joined the Hypoxia cycling club and BikeJournal at the end of 2010 and her wide open chatting on the forum made her a very much appreciated member. She was known for riding a Moots titanium bike at very high speed, she was totally fearless. She was riding a lot for charities and was ready to endorse any valuable cause.

During the 2011 Triple Bypass, she posted a video of her descent that was absolutely frightening as she was passing everybody, including a car at a certain point ....

It was not such a big surprise when she suffered a horrible crash while flying down Mt Evans in Sept 2011, breaking 9 vertebrae, ribs, shoulder blade and lacerating kidney and spleen. In the following months, she had 3 surgeries to fuse the discs and the past sickness came back messing with the treatments she needed desperately to stop pain and get back a certain control on her broken body.

She started posting about her fights, ups and downs and in a certain way became the Queen of BJ as everybody was cheering for her, checking her progress and sending good vibes. There is a post from Howard that was edited along the months with 500 comments!

We are dedicated cyclists here and most of us are tough like nails and returned from crashes and health issues. Pansy, raleighdon, pigman, roborider to name few gave us lessons of courage but CircaRigel's fight was epic.

That crash took everything from her but her life and grit. A few weeks after and still wearing an enormous brace that was keeping her chest together, she jumped on a trainer and made a video of her spinning with little lights attached to her body and bike!

She was basically posting everything of her efforts to recover, she was a trooper and was feeding herself with our encouragement, needing so much our love!

Incredibly, six months after the crash she was back on the road and attended a BJ Reunion in California 3 months later. I will never forget that encounter, she was clearly struggling to spin, indeed a bit overweight but she followed us and on a descent steep enough to make me slowdown, she passed beside me at high speed, yelling a long "weeeeeeeeeeehhhheeeee" all the way to the bottom. She never learned to live safe.

Then in 2013 a third serious crash ended her cycling life.

The last years of her painful life were dedicated to her beloved service dog Galen, a shilo shepherd.

She went to join the bunch led by Pansy in May 2018 at age 44. I know it was one of her dreams.

Welcome into the Inner Sanctum CircaRigel, you had the right stuff.

Thanks to my friend Howard for inspiration and some suggestions.

Nice write up. I didn't know anything about her 3rd crash in 2013. She was a trooper for sure and fought her fight for life to the max. I am pretty sure I meet her on the BJ reunion in Colorado.

Zman

BTW That pic with her in the mts. for sure is an excellent choice.
