Hi,

Adventure Cycling's newsletter had a link to a story from Bicyle Retailer about a survey being conducted in regard to men's health and cycling. You can see the full story at www.bicycleretailer.com/product-tech/2016/11/08/minkow-seeking-participants-large-cycling-health-study#.WCztjdy4OUf

Intro:

Dr. Roger Minkow, who helped developed Specialized Body Geometry saddles and other products, is launching what he says could be the largest scientific study of cyclists' health ever conducted.

Minkow who retired from his long time consulting agreement with Specialized earlier this year is working with Stanford University urologist Dr. Michael Eisenberg on the survey. Minkow said the study could eventually include data from as many as 50,000 cyclists.

All cyclists are being invited to take the web survey, which takes about 15 minutes. It asks detailed questions about cycling habits, equipment, bike fit and health conditions, including erectile disfunction in men and women's health issues related to their cycling.

More on that: john-s-allen.com/blog/?p=7044

I found it a strange survey. It does not have a saddle shape like my saddles' shapes to choose from. It seems to presume you ride a saddle now and you have ridden saddles in the past, but only one at a time. I have 3 bikes I ride regularly with 3 different saddles (none of which is like the survey's shapes). It asks for a resolution time for numbness experienced, the shortest time is "a day" -- for me, the longest resolution time was "a few minutes" so what am I supposed to answer?

I suppose that since I ride a recumbent, this survey would be irrelevant.

I have never had "numbness" per se with many different types of saddles. some do work better than other but so far my "erectile" know no disfunction. Whatever. I think many modern saddles do work a bit better.

Seems like the survey would be skewed toward those who have problems as the rest of us probably won't bother to respond as I see it.
