Since 2009 when I shattered my left pelvis in a freak bike accident, I've had nerve issues on my right side. Apparently my walking mechanics got messed up after being in a wheelchair for 8 weeks and having to relearn how to walk.

Anyway, I had a ruptured disk in 2013 that caused some muscle atrophy and issues on the right side. Had surgery, did acupuncture, therapy and all that. Kept riding but the nerve issue kept making my right leg feel numby and weak in the knee area and my back hurt. I'm kind of looking forward to getting the MRI and seeing what the doc says.

It got worse and I've got a MRI scheduled, but I starting icing regularly and doing the " McKenzie" exercises. My back pain is gone, the numbness is almost gone and the strength in that leg is recovering.

I guess the message I want to share is how amazing ice is.

Most physical therapists use ice packs to hold down the swelling.

I have been a runner since I was 14, logging over 100,000 miles. In the mid 90s, I started icing my knees and ankles after most of my runs. It has basically kept me pain free and kept injuries to a minimum. I am still able to run 15-20 miles a week (and ride about 100/week) in my 7th the decade.

Ice (and beer) is indeed a gift from God.

Uisge beatha and ice is a better gift from God although I prefer mine without the ice, maybe a drop of water.
