Observation and Perspective

I wrote a letter to my supervisor in response to an allegation of unprofessional communication with a student riding on a WEMOCO mid-day bus run:
Recalling a situation on a midday WEMOCO bus trip in which I may have insulted a rider. The following incident may be related, though I do not recall insulting anyone. Thinking back to the week before the Winter break there was a situation I recall on a WEMOCO midday trip.
While driving to WEMOCO, I glanced up at the interior view mirror. I saw a student smash another student on the head, from behind, with a very large, heavy looking, text book. I remember immediately addressing the situation using the PA system, telling the student who was using the book to settle down, move away from the other student and keep his hands to himself.
The student who was hit by the book seemed a bit shook up, frightened and angry. I remember hearing that student ask the other guy something to the effect: "Why did you do that?" -several times. The student who had struck the other student's head was substantially larger than the person he hit. It looked like a potential "bullying situation". It appeared that the situation would escalate without some sort of intervention. I chose to immediately demand that the perpetrator cease and desist his actions.
Any comments made by me were intended to diffuse the situation and the incident seemed to calm down quickly. I did not make any record of the incident at the time because the situation was diffused quickly and seemed settled. I don't recall any specific conversation but I suggested to the student who was hit, to visit the School Nurse and report the incident to the School Security office. I don't recall the names of the two individuals. I wouldn't recognize the students involved if I saw them today.
