Beginning to accumulate some bike time this year, at last! It has been a long cold Winter! At the young age of 60 now, and there is a major effort needed to get in decent physical condition. I'm not giving up on the goal to drop a significant amount of weight, but the way that goal goes, -at least I'm not getting any heavier. ..
The problem with maintaining and not losing weight, is that after some point there is a perceptible diminishing of muscle mass. And the waist can expand without gaining weight as muscle mass declines...The ratio of Muscle -vs- fat continues to change. The goal remains for caloric output to consistently exceed caloric input. In the next 7 weeks I would like to nail down at least 500 cycling miles (700 preferably). After tomorrow's ride this week will have been a good start.
On today's ride the winds were less of an obstacle. It was partly cloudy and a bit cool going in. Winds were light and favorable on the ride home. That translated into making a good speed average.
Soon I will be upgrading one of the 26 inch wheeled bikes with a 250 watt, 24 volt, 10 Amp hour front hub arrangement. The goal with this modification is to decrease commute times and perhaps increase commute trips. 9.5 "bike commute" days YTD total commuter miles YTD: 160.65+/-
