Ride Description: It wasn't supposed to rain any more, but it did. It was also listed as a 30 mile race, of which I was somewhat confident I could manage my battery life due to previous testing. But Thunderstorms and heavy rain started about 4 or 5 miles in. it stopped after a while and started again a few times but it made riding very treacherous. Rocks and roots were quite slippery and at one point water was running down sections of the "old school" Ojibwe Trail like a river. On the way back there were several hazardous muddy sections. The newer sections of Ojibwe, Seeley Pass and Flow Mama drain very well and were nearly perfect.
I was feeling great the first 26 miles or so and when the miles got up around 30 I got worried about battery life because I knew I had several more miles to go, and I was exhausted once I got back on Ojibwe. When my battery hit the red zone (20% left) I dropped the assist from TRAIL (40%) to ECO (20%) and that may have been a mistake as it tired me out even more.
I was never so happy to see the roof of the North End Hut. I think I may have bumped the assist back up for the final road stretch and finished with one red flashing battery bar! Sue brought me a pie from Tilly's, I was almost too tired to eat it.
It was the toughest bike ride I've ever done.
