FloridaBiker: If you don't mind me asking, where did you get your Surly, and why did you choose that brand for your long distance riding?

Paul, you are an awesome cyclist and man. I thank you for spending time in Seattle with us on your way through. Our cats missed you for a week after you left - especially Nutmeg. I, of course, had a great time riding with you and loved that little 200K we got to do together. I hope we'll get to ride together again sometime soon. Maybe ARIZONA next year...

Congratulations on your cross country ride this year. And sharing your pictures along the way.

History:

I started road riding in 1997 doing the local MS150 on and off for the next 10 years. In 2005 I decided to see what I was capable of so I signed up for a century before the MS 150 and did the century route on the MS ride. I managed to complete both but I pulled a hamstring on the way back and it took me off the bike for a year and a half. In late 2006 with my 50th birthday approaching, I wanted to do something really special so I quit my 31 year smoking habit and started training for RAGBRAI which would be the challenge of my life. I had no idea at the time where that was going to lead and I still don't but the miles are really wracking up fast.
Final position in 2007 - 219 - top 2.9% with 7632 total miles.

Goals for 2008:
8000 miles total - Total for the year 10800+ miles
1 century per month - Total - 50 Centuries
1 200k brevet per month = RUSA R12 medal - Accomplished
100 days commuting to work on the bike - Total 118
12 weeks without driving the car or 1 week a month. - Missed this one.
Finished in the top 8/10 of 1% of riders.

Goals for 2009 - Complete a full randonneurs series.
Have fun.
