 Penn Yan
Had a pretty good wind today out of the north west so started out into the wind for another run to Penn Yan. Headed up the usual climb combo of SR 14 & SR 14A to Reading Center. Pretty much another repeat performance of good first quarter out of Watkins slowing on second quarter and a good second half with a good chunk of the steep section out of the saddle. Crested with a twelve and a half average again so can't complain. Did better on the false flats out of Reading Center toward Dundee but fell short of my repeated goal of fifteen average over the first hour. Had a good descent to Dundee though and had a fifteen at the bottom of the hill. Put an effort into the next climb out of Dundee to Penn Yan and was able to not lose to much time. Had a tremendous five mile downhill to Penn Yan. The wind was now out of the west and so now a powerful crosswind. Couldn't see where the speed was coming from as the crosswind seemed to be providing more energy than a similar strong crosswind. Didn't complain and rode it out getting the average up to seventeen before pulling into town. Climb out of town over the ridge to Dresden was also fairly easy and fairly fast with the following wind. Even climbed well on the final climb up Swartwood to Himrod. Throught I would have a seventeen plus and maybe a chance at eighteen with a good final section. It wasn't to be though as legs went soft climbing out of Himrod and the crosswind seemed to be working against me now. Continued to bleed off more speed as the miles went by and accepted my fate and just rode it out. Had a good downhill to Watkins but hit bumper to bumper traffic in the Village. A little disappointed at the finish as had high hopes during the ride. On the plus side though my climbing is getting more solid and got some miles in with the first forty being fairly strong.
