Plan for today was to try to get a little climbing in and do some speed work. Chose the Sullivinville course that used to be one of our speed courses. It has two early climbs followed by twenty-one miles of steady usually fast downgrade. Headed up Old Odessa but didn't do very well on the mile and a half six percent climb. Legs tired easily but at least kept a steady pace. After the first hill it's over a hump on SR224 from Odessa to the Junction in Alpine. Had mild success upping the average into the wind before the Junction hoping it was enough to get my usual basic goal eleven miles in the first hour on this route. Went in at twelve and a half that should have been enough with an average climb. Turned in my best time of a couple of years on the two-mile five percent highway climb. Was able to get the average above thirteen as was onto the downgrade for a few minutes before the hour was up. Really needed to have a fifteen at that point if I wanted to best an eighteen overall but a seventeen was still within reach with a solid pace. Rest of the ride was just sailing along in the mostly in the low twenties with occasional tailwind assisted boosts into the low thirties down the slot. Was able to get the average up to seventeen-three by the course finish but lost a bit on the mile or so back to my house. Fairly solid ride if I ignore the first climb. Numbers are starting to head back up but unfortunately the weight is one of those numbers. Felt good to be flying on some of the sections.
