 Effort Made
Rode the Mecklenburg course with its two climbs today neither of which are major ascents. Started out on Old Odessa again and made an effort to climb harder than I have been. Still couldn't stay out of the saddle long and was forced back down, but I was able to at least handle the granny+1 today. Was able to upshift on a couple of sections but couldn't hold it for long. Had a much faster time on the meat of the climb but hadn't left much for the false flat at the end and was only able to score a eight point nine. I would have been happy with a nine and still saw some improvement. Tried to keep the effort going on the second half of the first ascent that is a couple miles long but only a moderate grade. Pretty much maxed the heart rate most of the way and ended up with a nine point seven. Had a rolling downgrade for six miles to Mecklenburg with a nice tailwind and decided to keep the pressure on and try to get the average up to thirteen. Felt good and got a couple of strong pulls in and was able to get there with a thirteen point one. Was satisfied with an hour's effort that was still not great but a couple tiers over my most recent performances. Fun time was over as I started the second climb on SR 79 West out of town. Have occasionally done this climb in the big chainring in the past but today it was granny +1. Heart rate stayed high but couldn't put out many watts as the legs were spongy. Took a bit to get over it but really didn't suffer just grinded it out. After that it was another ten miles of short climbs and long fast downhills. Rode steadily but slowed down after hitting a headwind on Skyline. Overall not a very good time but showing some improvement and have to get a lot faster on the climbs before I can get the averages over fifteen.
