Had another non riding weekend that just adds on the weight which gives me even more reasons to avoid the climbs. Adding to the pleasantries for today's ride are temperatures in the nineties with some degrees added due to the humidity. Headed up the valley for one of my easiest flat rides to Eldridge Park. Pretty much ten miles upgrade to Pine Valley then mostly pan flat through Elmira and Horseheads. Wind wasn't a hindrance today with a western crosswind that aided in cooling. Heat really didn't bother me on the way up until I did a speed change into Horseheads to get the average up to fourteen that would be a good average in February. After a mile of speedwork I slowed down and then the heat hit me as I started sweating profusely to the point I was having trouble seeing. Speed dropped considerably despite the flat terrain. The streets were empty which was really eerie. Very few cars were out and no pedestrians. Got to the park and took a break in the shade. The ducks and geese had abandoned the lake and were clustered together in some shade eating grass. Got on my phone and ordered some headbands before heading home. I did see one other person in the park sitting in the shade by the lake. Thought the return trip would be hotter and harder but after a lollygagging pace through the cityscape, the speeds picked up on the downgrades home. It was actually cooler on the eastern side of the road on the way back as it provided considerable shade and really was a pleasant change form the heat of the city. Didn't ride very hard or very far or very fast but got a ride in today. Seems just getting on the bike is a victory lately.
