 Then Came Bronson
Planned another short climbing day. Started up Cemetery again after yesterday's attempt with the goal of knocking some time off. Pretty much forcing the body to put out some watts for an intense twenty minutes and get the heart rate up. Stoop up for a bit longer today though wasn't able to stay up to the first turn which have been able to do so fairly easily in the past. Bogged down before the flat over the bridge and recovered a bit before the second steep section. Kept it out of the granny today that helped gain a little time but back became the weakest link today. Got over the top about half a mile an hour faster than yesterday. Still rated it a poor climb but with the extra weight I'm carrying I can't expect too much more. As I did yesterday, I started down the hollow but turned and headed up the step climb towards Moreland. Put in another poor climb but still an improvement compared to my recent climbing. Back was still singing to me but had a couple miles of downhill before heading up the third climb up Bronson Hill. It's another mile plus with a steep eleven percent section at the start before tapering off for a long slog up over the racetrack. It was back to abysmal climbing on Bronson and was only able to get a ten and a half average over the top. Usually need to have an eleven to get up to the benchmark fifteen and that still requires an aggressive downhill to the finish. Got some good speed on the first downhill to Townsend though did some coasting hoping the legs would recover a bit. Ride took a turn for the worse after turning in Townsend. The road had been chip sealed and that pretty much took the wind out of my sails. Used the loose stone as an excuse to back off the pace. Did the math after a mile or so and figured I could probably at least get a fourteen with some effort. Tried to fire the legs up again and got no response. I was pretty much tapped out. Ended up nursing the body home through the swamp section. Felt good to be climbing again and pushed myself until collapse that still was a bit satisfying. Hard short ride was fun but have quite a bit of work to do if I can stay healthy.
