Another very warm day which was a bit odd as there was a north wind blowing. Decided on a short ride with a front loading of climbing. Started out up Old Odessa and had to dig over the last half mile to get the average over nine that appears to be all I'm going to get this year. Had a half mile or so of flattish road before continuing the climb up Ridge Road. The second half of the climb is a couple of miles of moderate grade with a quick drop into and out of a gully that has a rather steep climb out. I was aided by the north wind and kept a steady speed though it was a bit taxing. Started thinking about bailing on the final section of the climb by cutting down Middle Road for the high speed descending in the shade. Ended up doing the final section up Ridge that wasn't as hard as I imagined it and only added hundred feet of climb. Made it over the top and had actually picked up the average speed though it really wasn't very impressive. A step in the right direction though. After that it was six miles of fast descent into Horseheads. Legs were working fine and got some good speed going that felt great. Wasn't sure whether or not the ride down the slot would be tough with the north headwind. Ended up not being too bad as there was enough west vector to set up some eddies on the twisting valley road. Wind shifted a back and forth a few times between a headwind and a tailwind and enough crosswind to help beat the heat. Turned into a fast fun ride after the first few miles of climbing.
