 Reverse Chubb Hollow
Great weather for riding today with mid-seventies temperatures and light winds. Legs felt good today but still classified by being under the weather. Intended to ride Chubb Hollow again and see if I could improve on my last ride through there. Started out fairly well with a light tailwind but was found lacking very early in the ride. While riding through town saw another rider I knew on an E-bike pulling out up the road. I figured if I could catch him before he accelerated to his max speed of twenty-seven, I would be able to catch a good draft. Unfortunately, I was only able to get my speed slightly above twenty and kept losing ground. Plan B was to catch him if he was stopped by traffic lights in Watkins. Plan B failed as he passed through the first light and I was stopped. I was back to riding alone again. Got delayed by construction stating up SR 14. Originally. I had planned on returning through the construction but decided to modify the route to avoid it by riding the course in reverse and descending back to Watkins through haunted Irelandville. A decent climb up SR 14 would have me maintaining at least ten on the hill, although I wasn't able to do it but was stronger than last time. Headed up the lake to Lakemont and saw another rider ahead. Took me a couple miles to chase her down. She was riding around the lake while I pulled off the highway at Glenora. I was encouraged by a good pace to Himrod but kind of bogged down on the long five-mile ascent to the top of Chubb Hollow. I was able to at least pass an Amish buggy today that was also a good sign. Had a pleasant descent to Dundee and a mediocre climb up SR 14A. The descent back to Watkins is always a thrill at least when dry and finished off the ride a mile an hour faster than last time although it was in reverse.
