Today was a travel day and planned on a slow flat ride on the Chief Ladiga rail trail. Started off on a slight rise from the trailhead and was passed by a pair of riders. They didn't appear to be overpowering and since I was heading into a moderate headwind, I decided to accelerate and fall into the draft. I only had to boost my speed a bit had to go from fourteen to fifteen to sixteen and seventeen. Only one rider was doing the pulling and was pushing a big gear at a low cadence. I on the other hand was trying to keep a high cadence. Pretty much drafted fairly easily though my heart rate was elevated over what I had planned for the day. I sat in for ten miles occasionally drifting off the back after the road crossings. The lead rider started to flag on an upgrade section, so I ended going up and planned on staying ahead to the fifteen-mile point where I planned on turning around to get thirty miles in. Didn't hear anybody behind me for a mile or two but as I neared my turnback point the pair started yoyoing off my wheel. Made my turn and kept good speed for a couple miles as I was now riding downgrade. Last ten miles was mostly flat and legs started to soften and ended up riding slowly to finish it off. Was back above fifteen for the first time in a while helped by some solid wheel sucking. It was then off do Georgia for a mountain event on Saturday.
