 Warm Sun Cold Wind
Thunderstorms came through yesterday afternoon and dropped the temperature down and dumped more rain. Sun came out this morning and by the mid afternoon the temperature was rising into the fifties before peaking in the low sixties. Had a long debate whether to ride today or take it off and take a nap as really not feeling well. Decided to take another short ride with a climb at the start. Headed up Jackson Hill for the first time this year and climbed steady enough to get to Catherine with a ten average which I would consider a fair climb. Continued climbing up Ridge Road to Seymoreville and didn't do quite so well on the second half of the twelve hundred foot climb ending up with a nine seven. Did have a good tailwind on the first half though and a nasty cross-head wind on the Ridge Road section. After that the ride involved quite a bit of coasting on the downgrade to Horseheads. Kept enough speed to keep the blood flowing and started the return leg on the Middle Road. Wanted to avoid the bad section of road down the slot in Pine Valley, and thought I would get some help with a tailwind on the upgrade on Middle Road. Sun was really nice although the southern wind was still quite pleasant, I would occasionally get a twenty mile an hour cold gust from the northwest that tried to push me off the road and generally ruin a nice day. Dropped back down into the slot on Birch Hill Road to Millport. Downhill was pretty slow as the there was a strong headwind and the road was still heavily sanded. Ride from Millport home was quite a bit slower than yesterday but still kept the speed in the low twenties for the last six miles. Had to avoid a downed tree on the shoulder that probably came down during the storm yesterday. Finished off the ride without issue. Couldn't decide whether it was a good choice to ride today or not as still felt tired after the ride and my out of the saddle efforts today were not very good. Can't really pass up such a nice sunny day in early March. Hopefully some recovery will occur overnight as the next two days look like some seventies are on the way.
