Headed down to PA for two metrics this weekend. Stopped in Lewisburg with the intention of taking a relaxed cruise on the Buffalo Valley Rail Trail. Last time I was down this way they were in the process of paving the trail and thought I would see if it had been completed. Weather was very hot with the heat index over one hundred so didn't plan on making much of an effort. Started out into a blistering headwind but didn't think it would be much trouble as the trail is only nine miles long and is protected by a good deal of wooded areas. Only made it for a mile before I found the trail to still be closed. Headed out onto SR 45 that runs parallel to the trail and was hoping that only a short section remained closed. Highway was not protected from the wind and it was a bit challenging. I went a mile or so and returned to the trail and was able to ride another mile of it before it was again closed off. Opted not to go back on the highway and instead climbed a ridge running down the center of the valley and descended onto a country lane running along a stream. Did a loop and decided to head back as it was starting to look like thundershowers might be blowing in. Did a couple small climbs before returning to the start. It doesn't appear that much construction has been done on the trail since I was last here. Did find some pleasant riding north of the trail that I will explore more next time I'm in the area. Has a slow ride in uncomfortable heat and ended up a few miles short of my goal.
