Took yesterday off as had a visit by the Cramp Fairy Friday night but woke up and stretched enough in time to avoid any damage. Wind was whipping out of the north, but the air was clear as the Canadian smoke crisis appears to be over. Headed into the wind up the climb SR 14 and SR 14A again. I've been focusing on this comparatively easier climb in hopes of showing signs of improvement before taking on more challenging climbing. Didn't see any signs of improvement today though didn't expect much going against the grade and a good headwind. Once over the top and into Reading Center the grade slackens for a couple of miles before starting to start rolling downwards. A good pace has me covering fifteen miles in the first hour of mostly climbing. Today was a sad trifle over thirteen. Made up some time on the descent into Dundeee and thought briefly about continuing north up Chubb Hollow. Thinking about it was all I did and headed over the ridge to Lakemont. Had a fairly good short climb over the ridge bolstered by the lack of headwind. Math didn't look good for even getting my fifteen today despite the having the wind at my back down SR 14. Didn't look much better at the top of the hill overlooking Watkins but had a very fast descent holding speeds in the low forties for a good deal of the long descent. Had to spend time in the traffic lane as the normally good shoulder was occasionally overgrown with vegetation. It had occurred to me getting whipped by foliage at forty might be painful. Had my fifteen by the bottom of the hill but lost it in traffic through Watkins. Got it back heading across the swamp and pretty much called it a day after reclaiming fifteen. Fairly good day on the bike after the initial dismal climbing as the legs had good strength on the false flats and downhills.
