 Round the Lake IV
Weather looked great for another loop around Seneca Lake with a light south wind in the morning switching to the north later in the day. Goal is still just to burn some calories and to get used to riding longer distances again. Opted for the two bonus climbs again but hopefully next time around I'll focus on speed rather than a slower pace with climbs. Had a fairly good climb to Reading Center to start things off though was a bit worried as my left leg went spongy on the steep section. It recovered quickly and ended up with a best time of the year. Didn't put out as many watts but the couple of pounds I've lost really cuts down the time on steep climbs. Legs felt great on the ride up the west side of the lake and was able to get to Geneva just under seventeen. Rather than trying to keep the average up opted for the canal trail to Waterloo again. Didn't see anyone on the trail today that was surprising as have seen quite a few riders on it the last few times. Didn't really get much of a tailwind on the long uphill grade to Ovid as the wind was mainly from the west. It wasn't blowing very hard, so it wasn't much of a factor. Developed a saddle sore before reaching Ovid where I stopped for McLunch. Getting back on the bike in Ovid was a bit rough on my now tender backside and had twenty-odd miles left to ride. Average had dropped considerably on the trail, and the Waterloo-Ovid stretch but started to pick back up as I burned off the elevation I had gained. Did okay on the climb out of Valois but suffered a bit on the climb through Tug Hollow. Getting faster and climbing better but still have a long way to get back to my fitness I had in the spring.
