 The Ride of Silence
I was invited to participate in the Rochester area Ride of Silence. The RoS is an international event held every year on the 3rd Wednesday in May. After some brief speeches and instruction to the large assemblage of cyclists, I was given the opportunity to read my version of the RoS poem.The Ride of Silence recognizes fallen cyclist killed or injured everywhere around the world.
My version of the Ride of Silence poem:

We ride today in silence, slowly, biking side by side;
We'll Pedal cautiously, and thoughtfully, during this ride;

Biking the route, with helmets on and fastened,
Remembering the past perhaps, of something tragic that happened;

Riding safely together, along this route we'll take,
Our peloton rolls on, -no one charging for the break;

With tears that may be hidden, remembering those we hold dear,
We honor our friends and family, -and all who cannot be here;

So We ride Tonight to make others aware,
The roads we travel are for all to share;

For those fallen, no longer here with us by our side,
May God bless all on their final ride.

my 2019 rewrite:

My version of the Ride of Silence poem:

Today, we ride in silence, slowly, biking side by side;
We'll Pedal cautiously, and thoughtfully, during this ride;

Biking the route, with helmets on and fastened,
Remembering the past, perhaps, of a tragic mishap that happened;

Riding safely together now, along this route we take,
Our group rolls along, steadily without a break;

Though tears may be hidden, for remembrance of those we hold dear,
We honor those friends and family, -and all who cannot be here;

So We ride Tonight to make others aware,
The roads we travel are for all to share;

For those fallen, no longer here with us by our side,
May God bless all on their final ride.
