 Hot Springs
Finally got back on the bike outdoors as I have been suffering from a cold for a little over two weeks and had little desire to suffer in the actual winter weather that finally showed up in NY. I have been consistently riding the computrainer with the group and have at least probably not lost any fitness but have not really been even close to consuming the calories I have been stuffing into my gob. Headed to Texas for work again and stopped in Caddo Valley AR for the traditional pre work climbing course. First thirteen miles wasn't too bad with the ever upward rolling climbs and didn't feel too out of shape despite the occasional hacking and wheezing as my lungs still haven't cleared up. After a fast downhill I had a four mile mild climb with a steep quarter mile kicker at the end. Had a chance of cresting at fifteen but crawled up the steep section and could only come out with a fourteen three. Took it easy on the fast twisting descent as still have some left over fear of my front wheel destructing as it did coming down Doe Creek Rd in VA last fall. I think I'll get my confidence back if I can get my weight to drop enough that I am not torturing the rims during hard braking. They have actually widened the road in sections coming back over the mountain on RT 7, although I still spent some time in the lane on the descents, it was much less time I spent out there in previous years. Hopefully they won't cut new thank-you-mums in the shoulder. Didn't climb very well on the back nine but at least my legs snapped back on the downgrades. Legs felt fresh and had a good spin and really was a pretty good day if I don't dwell on the climbing.
