Celebrated the shortest day of the year with a short unseasonably warm ride. It rained fairly hard most of the morning but the sun came out a little after two and the mid fifties temperature made for some decent riding. Had to keep it short as the sunset in the valley happens around four thirty. Thought about doing the Rock Stream route but opted for the shorter Reading Center route which eliminates around six miles of grade with one mile long steepish climb. Climb didn't go to well as am really out of climbing shape having been in the flatlands for the last two months. Struggled up the climb to the half way point and started to descend back home. Didn't dare to get much speed up on the descent as the roads were pretty wet and still had quite a little sand and grit laying about. Fog started to rise some of the shadier sections and got to experience some abrupt temperature swings while riding in and out of the sunshine.I got home just in time to see the sun set at its southern extreme. Not a bad ride at all for late December.
