Wasn't sure how the legs would respond after yesterday's disappointing outing so started off again without a plan and would decide on a course after a couple of miles. Started out up the valley as I did yesterday, but today the wind was from the north. Legs actually felt better and was able to spin and put out some moderate watts. Didn't break any records but felt okay. Decided not to press my luck as didn't want to ride too far and have a sufferfest returning home if the legs soured. Headed up Johnson Hollow and was able to climb fairly well over the bottom steep section but lacked the initiative to keep pushing over the top. Went into tourist mode and enjoyed the ride through the hollow. Tried out my speed on the downgrade through the Moreland Junction that usually has speeds in the mid to upper twenties and was able to at least do the low twenties for a mile or so into a stiff headwind. Downhill into Watkins was a bit hairy as the north wind creates some tricky eddies as it rebounds off the side hill. Had to slow down for some police activity as it appeared someone escaped into the swamp and they were getting the dog ready to go after him or her. I was able to get the average up to fifteen that was quite a bit better than yesterday's speed but with the miles I've got on the legs should be putting out high seventeens or low eighteens on this course at this point. Looks like I have a chance of recovering but definitely won't be doing the planned metric in PA this weekend.
