With my mountain bike repaired with the proper application of a 4 mm allen wrench, I returned to the rail trail to complete yesterday's aborted ride. The sun wasn't out today and it was a bit warmer but still on the cool, windy side for the road bike. Only saw one runner on the trail today on the upper portion. The path has been improved since I rode it last year with the golf ball sized rocks being replaced by a fine sugar stone. Surface was hardpacked and could have easily rode my road bike on it without issue. They now have a bird trail going up the hill possibly to the domes at the trailhead in Pine Valley that might add a little interesting climbing. Didn't try it out today as have to save something to look forward to on future rides. They have also installed a gazebo at that trailhead. The trail makes for a mundane ride being a mostly straight, steady grade out-and-back, but it does have the advantages of no traffic and shelter from the wind. Legs aren't putting out much power currently. Tried a race pace on the trainer yesterday and got dropped two miles into the race. Going to need to start working on doing some speed changes this winter. Still have one more trip planned to Florida, but then it will be all trainer and mountain bike.
