Appears that it takes two days to recover from a ride according to my numbers. So after taking yesterday off to recover opted for a little longer ride today. Headed out through Mecklenburg to Perry City and returned via Bennettsburg. Went up Old Odessa an
put in a nine mile and hour average that appears to be about the best I'm going to be able to do this year. Legs felt good on the climb and thought I might be able to get the average up on the second half of the climb to Smith Valley. Had to stop for construction just outside of Odessa and it looks like there is more bridge work being done. Hopefully they will be doing one side at a time rather than shutting the entire road down. Rode steady up the climb and started to ride in the rain again. Time wasn't very good at the junction but at least not suffering on the climbs now. Had good speed through to Mecklenburg despite the light rain and nasty crosswind. Pulled into town at fourteen six with thirteen being my benchmark for the season. Kept the watts up to Perry City and then planned on riding the last half at an easier pace. Got stopped again for paving and spent several minutes chatting with a truck driver that was sharing the delay. Got to ride on some new pavement to Reynoldsville and finished off the ride with a couple of small climbs and a fast descent down Skyline. If I can start shaving some time off the climbs it seems like I'm not far from getting my averages up to seventeen. Usually don't like riding in the cool damp weather but today was a joy.
